Adenomaattiset refers to adenomas, which are benign (non-cancerous) tumors that arise from glandular tissue. Glandular tissue is found in many organs and produces substances like mucus, hormones, or digestive juices. When cells in this tissue begin to grow and divide abnormally, they can form an adenoma.

Adenomas are common and can occur in various parts of the body. Some of the most frequently encountered types include colonic adenomas, which develop in the lining of the colon, and pituitary adenomas, which form in the pituitary gland. Other examples include adrenal adenomas, thyroid adenomas, and bronchial adenomas.

The presence of an adenoma is often detected incidentally during medical examinations or screenings. While adenomas themselves are usually not harmful, some types, particularly colonic adenomas, have the potential to develop into cancer over time. This is why regular screenings, such as colonoscopies, are recommended to detect and remove precancerous adenomas.

The cause of adenoma formation is not always clear, but genetic factors and environmental influences are believed to play a role. Treatment for adenomas depends on their location, size, and whether they show any signs of malignancy. In many cases, surgical removal is the preferred course of action, especially for adenomas with a higher risk of becoming cancerous. Regular follow-up care may also be necessary.
