Aanvoerlijnen are the routes and networks used to deliver materiel, food, fuel, ammunition, and medical supplies from suppliers to troops, installations, or relief sites. They form the logistical lifelines of an operation and are distinct from purely communicative channels; they are, however, closely related to lines of communication, which also encompass information and administrative links. Aanvoerlijnen can span land, sea, and air space and include depots, staging areas, and transport hubs that connect production with the front or with civilian demand centers.

In practice, aanvoerlijnen are organized as a multi-echelon system. Primary lines move bulk materiel from national or continental suppliers to main depots; secondary lines distribute to theaters of operation; tertiary lines bring goods to the final destinations. The system relies on various modes of transport (highways, rail, ships, aircraft) and supporting services (maintenance, fuel supply, medical logistics). Planning considers capacity, timing, storage, and contingency routes, with security measures such as convoys, escort forces, and anti-ambush measures to protect the flow.

Because they determine the ability to sustain operations, aanvoerlijnen are vulnerable to interdiction, damage, weather, and political disruption. Protection, redundancy, and rapid re-routing are central to risk management. In civilian contexts, similar concepts underpin disaster relief and supply chain resilience, where reliable aanvoerlijnen enable rapid delivery of food, water, and relief materials.
