Zvir

Zvir is a fictional sovereign state located in the central highlands of the continent of Valara. It covers about 24,000 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 2.8 million. The capital and largest city is Nerez. The official language is Zviric, with Varin and Thal spoken by minority communities. The name Zvir is derived from the Zviric word for “crossing,” reflecting historic trade routes that connected inland valleys with coastal towns.

Geography and climate

Zvir lies mainly in highland terrain, with the Zvir River valley forming the main population corridor. The climate is temperate with alpine influences in the north and more continental conditions in the south. Forests, pastures, and rolling farmland characterize the landscape, and several protected areas preserve endemic species and scenic vistas.

History

The region was settled in the early second millennium BCE and developed as a loose federation of principalities during the medieval era. It achieved unification in the 18th century and gained formal sovereignty in the early 20th century after a peaceful constitutional reform. Since that time, Zvir has maintained a stable, parliamentary system with regular elections and a focus on regional cooperation.

Government and politics

Zvir is a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The legislature is bicameral, comprising a 60-seat Senate and a 180-member Chamber of Deputies. The judiciary is independent, led by a supreme court that acts as the final court of appeal.

Economy and society

The economy is diversified, combining agriculture (potatoes and barley), forestry, light manufacturing, and services. Hydroelectric power and renewable energy projects provide substantial electricity. Key exports include timber products, textiles, and agricultural goods. Society is multiethnic, with education emphasizing science, engineering, and the arts. Tourism focuses on historic towns, national parks, and alpine scenery.
