Zusatzsignalen

Zusatzsignalen are supplementary signals used in railway signaling to convey information beyond what is shown by the main signals. They are designed to inform train drivers about additional requirements, such as speed restrictions, route decisions, or special operating conditions, to support safe and efficient train movements.

These signals are associated with Hauptsignale (main signals) and are treated as part of the signaling instruction. They must be observed in conjunction with the corresponding main signal; in most cases, if a Zusatzsignal is not visible or not applicable, the driver relies on the main signal alone. Zusatzsignalen can be located directly next to the main signal, beneath it, or on a separate signboard nearby, and they are activated by the interlocking or trackside control equipment.
