Zsírszövete

Zsírszövete, which translates to adipose tissue in English, is a type of connective tissue composed primarily of adipocytes, also known as fat cells. These cells are specialized for storing energy in the form of fat, or triglycerides. Adipose tissue plays a crucial role in the body's energy metabolism, insulation, and cushioning of organs.

There are two main types of adipose tissue: white adipose tissue and brown adipose tissue. White adipose tissue is the most abundant type and serves as a long-term energy reserve, insulates the body against heat loss, and protects vital organs. It is distributed throughout the body, with significant deposits in the subcutaneous layer and around internal organs.

Brown adipose tissue, on the other hand, is specialized for thermogenesis, the process of generating heat. It is more prevalent in newborns and hibernating animals, helping them maintain body temperature. While adults have less brown adipose tissue, it can be activated in response to cold exposure.

Beyond energy storage and thermogenesis, adipose tissue also functions as an endocrine organ, producing and releasing hormones and other signaling molecules called adipokines. These adipokines influence a wide range of physiological processes, including appetite regulation, insulin sensitivity, and inflammation. Dysregulation of adipose tissue function is implicated in various metabolic disorders, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
