Zoomobjektiiveihin, or zoom lenses, are a type of photographic lens that allows the user to change the focal length. This means the angle of view can be altered, effectively zooming in or out without physically moving the camera. Unlike prime lenses, which have a fixed focal length, zoom lenses offer versatility for a wide range of shooting situations.

The focal length of a zoom lens is typically expressed as a range, such as 24-70mm or 70-200mm. The lower number indicates the widest angle of view, while the higher number represents the most zoomed-in perspective. Zoom lenses can be broadly categorized into wide-angle zooms, telephoto zooms, and standard zooms, depending on their focal length range.

Zoom lenses are popular among both amateur and professional photographers due to their convenience. They eliminate the need to carry multiple prime lenses, making them ideal for travel and events where quick adjustments are necessary. However, zoom lenses can sometimes have limitations in terms of maximum aperture (how much light they can let in) compared to prime lenses, which can affect performance in low-light conditions. The optical design of zoom lenses is also more complex, which can sometimes lead to slightly reduced image quality or more pronounced optical aberrations compared to high-quality prime lenses, although modern advancements have significantly closed this gap.
