Zliczanie

Zliczanie is the Polish noun for the act of counting or tallying the number of items, occurrences, or events. In everyday language it covers simple counting as well as aggregating totals, for example zliczanie osób w pomieszczeniu or zliczanie pieniędzy. The term is closely related to liczenie, but emphasizes the aggregation of counts into a final total and enumeration of distinct items.

In Polish, zliczanie is formed from the verb zliczać (to count up, tally) with the nominal suffix -anie. The prefix z- often marks completion or accumulation. The concept is used across disciplines to denote the process of determining how many units or instances exist in a given set.

In mathematics and computer science, zliczanie refers to counting elements of a finite or countable set, determining the cardinality. It also describes routine operations in algorithms where one scans data and increases a counter for each match or event. In programming, a counter variable is a practical implementation of zliczanie.

In statistics and data analysis, zliczanie yields frequency counts, which form the basis for frequency distributions, cross-tabulations, and histograms. Reports often present zliczanie as raw counts and, together with totals, as relative frequencies or percentages. The term remains common in Polish technical literature and education as a precise description of counting-related tasks.
