Zlepil

Zlepil is a town in the fictional country of Veridia, located in the Veridian highlands along the Kest River. The name derives from the Veridian word zlěp meaning “ridge of light,” a reference to sunlit cliffs that dominate the valley. Zlepil sits at roughly 340 meters above sea level in a temperate climate with four distinct seasons.

Geography and economy: The town is surrounded by mixed forests and farmland. The economy combines agriculture (grain and dairy), timber processing, and small-scale manufacturing, with a growing emphasis on eco-tourism.

History: Founded in the 13th century by agrarian settlers, Zlepil developed around a medieval market square. A major fire in 1729 led to rebuilt architecture, and a railway line established in 1893 connected Zlepil to larger towns, accelerating growth.

Demographics: As of 2020, the population was about 5,200. The community is predominantly Veridian with a local dialect; languages include Veridian and Zlepi.

Culture and landmarks: The town center retains a medieval street plan. Notable sites include St. Mary’s Church, dating to the 12th century, and the ruins of Zlepil Fortress. The annual Harvest Festival attracts visitors from neighboring districts and features craft markets and folk performances.

Governance: Zlepil is a municipality governed by a nine-member council within Veridia’s provincial framework. Public services include a primary school, a library, and a community clinic.
