Zirkoni
Zirkoni is a term used in several languages to refer to zircon, a mineral group and gemstone. In its natural form, zircons are zirconium silicates with the chemical formula ZrSiO4. They crystallize in the tetragonal system and commonly occur as crystals in igneous and metamorphic rocks, as well as as detrital grains in sedimentary deposits. Zircon is highly valued in geology because it can contain uranium and thorium and preserve lead as it crystallizes, making it a key mineral for radiometric dating, particularly U-Pb dating, to determine the ages of rocks and crustal processes.
Zircon varies in color due to trace impurities, ranging from colorless to brown, yellow, green, and red.
The term zirkoni can also refer to cubic zirconia, a synthetic gemstone derived from zirconium oxide (ZrO2).
Zirkoni-related materials are mined and processed for industrial uses (such as refractory ceramics and foundry sands)
