Zeitfrequente

Zeitfrequente is a neologism used in some theoretical discussions to denote the rate at which temporal structure is sampled or updated within a system. The term combines Zeit (time) and Frequenz (frequency) with a nominalizing suffix, following patterns common in German technical vocabulary. There is no universally accepted definition, and usage varies by field.

Conceptually, zeitfrequente describes a cadence or temporal granularity: high zeitfrequente means rapid updates of time, low zeitfrequente means coarse or slow updates. It can be used to analyze models with discrete time steps, clock-driven processes, or subjective time perception.

In physics and engineering, zeitfrequente aligns with the idea of sampling rate or clock frequency, measured in hertz, representing how often a system's state is reevaluated per second. In cognitive science, it may relate to the observer's temporal resolution or the perceived tempo of events.

Critics argue that as a coined term it may create ambiguity with established notions of frequency, cadence, or time scale. Supporters claim it offers a compact shorthand for discussing temporal granularity across disciplines.
