Zajev is a fictional city-state and port in the imagined realm of Eldoria. It sits on the Silver River near its delta and functions as a commercial, cultural, and educational hub for the northern region.

The settlement was founded in the 11th century by merchants from the coastal city of Lomar. Through centuries of trade, Zajev grew into a maritime power and in 1782 declared independence from feudal rule, establishing a republican government led by the Council of Guild Masters. The 19th century brought industrialization and reforms that modernized its infrastructure and institutions.

Zajev is governed by a council of guild representatives and elected officials, with a mayor serving as chief executive. The constitution guarantees civil rights, merchant liberties, and freedom of the press; suffrage expanded to include women in 1870 in this fictional setting.

The city occupies a river delta with a temperate climate. Its economy centers on metallurgy, textile production, shipping, and logistics. The port handles commercial traffic and the railway connects to inland markets. The population is around 180,000. The official language is Zajevan, with minority languages present in immigrant communities. Notable districts include the Arcaded Quarter and the Old Market. The University of Zajev, founded in 1884, is a leading center for engineering and humanities.
