Zahlungsbestätigung

Zahlungsbestätigung is a document or electronic notification that confirms the successful completion of a payment. It serves as proof of payment for both payer and payee and is commonly used in commercial transactions, online purchases, bank transfers, direct debits, and subscription services.

It can be issued by the recipient (merchant) or by the payment service provider or bank after the payment has been processed. In practice it is often delivered as an email, a system notification, or as part of an invoice or order confirmation.

A typical Zahlungsbestätigung includes: names and contact information of payer and recipient, the amount and currency, the date and time of payment, the payment method, a reference or invoice number, and a transaction ID or receipt number. Some confirmations also state the payment status, such as completed or pending, and any related fees.

It is closely related to invoices and receipts. An invoice records the obligation to pay, while the Zahlungsbestätigung confirms that payment has been received. In accounting, it supports reconciliation and tax documentation; in consumer contexts it assists in refunds, disputes, or warranty claims.

Reliability and privacy: digital Zahlungsbestätigungen should come from trusted sources and may be cryptographically protected or digitally signed to prevent forgery. Paper versions may be called a payment receipt or Quittung in German.
