Zagbie

Zagbie is a type of Hungarian folk dance and song, originating from the Zagábi, a village in the Keszthely Mountains of Western Hungary. The Zagbie dance is a traditional folk dance that has been performed for centuries, and is characterized by rapid footwork, complex rhythms, and elaborate costume and headdress.

The term "Zagbie" literally means " sheep stealing" or "sheep drivers" in Hungarian, which refers to the traditional occupation of the people of Zagábi village, who lived off of farming and herding. The dance is said to have originated as a way for the villagers to celebrate their annual sheep-herding festivals.

The Zagbie dance is typically performed by a group of dancers, who wear traditional Hungarian folk costumes, including colorful embroidered clothing,(Pointed hats and intricately decorated boots. The music accompanying the dance is usually provided by live folk instruments, such as the fiddle, flute and accordion, and features lively and energetic rhythms.

Outside of Hungary, the Zagbie dance is not as well-known, but it is recognized as a significant part of Hungarian cultural heritage and folklore. The dance has been featured in various cultural events and festivals, including the annual Hungarian Folk Festival, which celebrates traditional Hungarian dance and music.
