ZZplant

The ZZ plant, scientifically known as Zamioculcas zamiifolia, is a popular houseplant prized for its attractive foliage and resilience. Native to Eastern Africa, it is a perennial plant characterized by its glossy, dark green leaves that grow on upright stems. These leaves are typically oval-shaped and grow in pairs along the stem, giving the plant a distinctively symmetrical appearance.

ZZ plants are well-adapted to low-light conditions, making them an ideal choice for indoor environments where natural light may be limited. They are also drought-tolerant, storing water in their thick, potato-like rhizomes. This allows them to survive extended periods without watering, which contributes to their reputation as a low-maintenance plant. Overwatering is the most common cause of problems for ZZ plants, as it can lead to root rot.

Propagation of ZZ plants can be done through division of the rhizomes or by leaf cuttings, although the latter method is slower. The plant produces a spathe-and-spadix inflorescence, similar to those of other members of the Araceae family, but flowering is rare in indoor cultivation.
