ZNR

ZNR refers to a family of voltage-dependent resistors, commonly known as varistors or transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSS). These electronic components are designed to protect electrical circuits from voltage spikes and surges. Their resistance changes with applied voltage. Under normal operating conditions, a ZNR has a very high resistance, allowing little current to flow. However, when the voltage across it exceeds a certain threshold, its resistance drops sharply. This rapid decrease in resistance diverts excess current away from sensitive components, effectively clamping the voltage to a safe level.

ZNRs are typically made from ceramic materials, most commonly zinc oxide. The specific composition and manufacturing process influence their electrical characteristics, such as their clamping voltage, energy absorption capability, and response time. They are widely used in a variety of applications, including power supplies, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, and telecommunications systems, to safeguard against damage from transient overvoltages caused by lightning strikes, power grid fluctuations, or switching operations. Their ability to rapidly dissipate energy makes them a crucial protective element in modern electronic designs.
