Z31

The Z31 refers to the Nissan 300ZX, a sports car produced by Nissan from 1983 to 1989. It was the second generation of the Z-car line, succeeding the Datsun 280ZX. The Z31 marked a significant shift from its predecessors, featuring a more angular and modern design, a departure from the softer curves of earlier models.

Initially, the Z31 was offered with a naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6 engine. A significant addition for the 1984 model year was the introduction of a turbocharged version of the same V6, which became a popular choice for performance enthusiasts. The car was available in both coupe and T-top body styles.

Throughout its production run, the Z31 received several updates. The most notable facelift occurred in 1987, bringing revised front and rear styling, updated interior features, and improved engine performance, particularly for the turbocharged model which saw an increase in horsepower. The Z31 also introduced features like the optional "Superoultra-light" body panels made of composite materials, aiming to reduce weight.

The Z31 was the first Z-car to feature the VG30 V6 engine. It was sold globally under the Nissan brand, though in some markets, particularly early on, it might still have carried the Datsun nameplate before the full brand transition. The Z31's blend of styling and performance, especially with the turbocharged engine, helped solidify the Z-car's reputation in the sports car market. It was eventually succeeded by the Z32 generation in 1990.
