Yätmeler

Yätmeler refer to a group of indigenous Turkic peoples who historically inhabited the Altai Mountains region of western Mongolia and southern Siberia. Their traditional territory comprised the Altai Mountains and surrounding steppes, where they developed a distinct culture and practiced a traditional form of shamanism and animism.

The yätmeler were known for their nomadic lifestyle, relying on herding and hunting to sustain themselves. They were skilled pastoralists, transitioning between seasonal pastures with their horses, sheep, and yaks. Little is known about the yätmeler's post-Soviet era experiences in modern Mongolia and Russia, due to a lack of documentation and scholarly interest in their distinct cultural practices. As current developments shape the cultural landscape of the Altai region, further study is necessary to shed light on the history of this highly isolated, and now highly beleaguered people.
