Yzvlak

Yzvlak is a fictional archipelago created for worldbuilding and speculative fiction. In its lore, yzvlak comprises seven main islands and several islets, located in a temperate maritime region to the south of the northern coast, with a total land area of about 1,200 square kilometers.

The name yzvlak derives from the constructed language Yzvin, combining root syllables used to evoke wind and shoreline. In the in-universe lore, the term predates written records and was later adopted as the official demonym for inhabitants.

Geography and environment describe rugged coastlines, granite headlands, interlacing inlets, and evergreen forests. The climate is temperate maritime, with cool summers and mild winters; rainfall is frequent, fostering rich biodiversity including seabirds and kelp forests.

History and politics note that earliest settlements appear in legend around 900 CE, with influence from seafaring clans. The islands unified under a confederal state in the 16th century. The current government is a constitutional republic established by a 1902 charter, and the capital is Nyra. The archipelago participates in a regional association focused on maritime security and environmental stewardship.

Society and culture include languages such as Yzvin and a widely spoken Common; literacy rates are high and education is publicly funded. Religious practice is plural, with both ancient sea-cult traditions and secular communities. Cultural traditions emphasize maritime festivals, boatbuilding, and ropework, while cuisine centers on fish, seaweed, and fermented staples.

Economy and infrastructure rely on sustainable fishing, ecotourism, and ship repair, complemented by small-scale agriculture and renewable energy programs (tidal and wind). Transportation features ferries, a light rail on two islands, and a network of causeways linking the main islets.
