Yugi

Yugi is a fictional character in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise, created by Kazuki Takahashi. He is the central protagonist of the original manga and its anime adaptation, as well as other media in the series. In the manga, his full name is Yugi Mutou (Mutō), and in some English adaptations he is referred to as Yugi Muto. He is portrayed as a shy, compassionate high school student with a deep interest in puzzles and games.

The character’s core premise centers on the Millennium Puzzle, an ancient Egyptian artifact he solves that binds the spirit of a pharaoh named Atem to his own body. This spirit, often called Yami Yugi or simply the pharaoh, emerges during duels and grants Yugi enhanced strategic ability and a more assertive personality. The dynamic between Yugi and Atem drives much of the narrative, with the two working together to overcome various adversaries.

In the Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Yugi uses the Duel Monsters card game to face opponents in tournaments and battles that test his intelligence, courage, and sense of friendship.
