Yksipyörät, often referred to as unicycles, are human-powered, single-wheeled vehicles. They consist of a frame, a wheel, pedals attached directly to the wheel hub, and a seat. Unlike bicycles, unicycles lack a steering mechanism and gears. Propulsion is achieved by the rider pedaling forward, and balance is maintained through constant adjustments of the rider's center of gravity.

The learning process often involves falling and repeated attempts to regain equilibrium.
