Yartsa, also known as Ophiocordyceps sinensis or caterpillar fungus, is a unique entomopathogenic fungus that grows in the Himalayan region. It is found primarily at high altitudes in Bhutan, China, India, Nepal, and Tibet. The fungus infects the larvae of the ghost moth, a species of hepialid moth. It then grows through the larva's body and eventually kills it. The fruiting body of the fungus emerges from the head of the mummified insect.
