Xlendi

Xlendi is a picturesque coastal village located on the western side of the island of Gozo, Malta. It is situated in a natural bay that opens out to the Mediterranean Sea, offering stunning views and a sheltered harbor. Historically, Xlendi was a small fishing hamlet, and remnants of this past can still be seen in the traditional boathouses lining the waterfront.

The village has since developed into a popular tourist destination, known for its clear waters, dramatic cliffs, and relaxed atmosphere. The bay itself is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing, with a small sandy area and numerous rocky platforms. For the more adventurous, Xlendi is a renowned diving and snorkeling site. The underwater landscape includes caves, reefs, and the remains of ancient amphorae, attracting divers from around the world. Notable dive sites include the Xlendi Reef and the Inland Sea tunnel which connects to the open sea.

Above the water, the cliffs surrounding Xlendi provide excellent hiking opportunities. Paths lead to viewpoints offering panoramic vistas of the coastline and the open sea. The most prominent landmark is the Xlendi Tower, a 17th-century watchtower built by the Knights of Malta to guard against pirate raids. While no longer functional, the tower stands as a historical monument and a focal point of the village.

The village offers a range of amenities for visitors, including hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and cafes, many of which are situated along the promenade overlooking the bay. These establishments typically serve local Gozitan and Mediterranean cuisine, with fresh seafood being a specialty. Xlendi retains a charm that blends its fishing heritage with its modern role as a seaside resort.
