Wärmegewinnung refers to the process of capturing and utilizing heat energy that would otherwise be lost or dissipated into the environment. This is a key concept in energy efficiency and sustainable building design, aiming to reduce the need for primary energy sources for heating purposes. One common form is the recovery of waste heat from industrial processes. Exhaust gases, wastewater, or heat from machinery can be channeled through heat exchangers to preheat incoming air or water for other uses, thereby reducing the energy required for those secondary processes. In buildings, Wärmegewinnung often involves harnessing solar energy. Solar thermal collectors absorb sunlight and convert it into heat, which can be used for domestic hot water or space heating.
