Wynfreye

Wynfreye is a small rural village and civil parish in the fictional county of Westmarch, in the kingdom of Elaria. The settlement lies in the Larn valley, with the Larn River providing irrigation and Mistwood Forest to the west. The surrounding countryside is primarily farmland, with hedgerows and small orchards; elevation ranges from 40 to 120 meters.

The village is first documented in the 12th century, when the parish church and a market cross anchored the community. A Market Charter issued in 1570 established Wynfreye as a local trading center for wool and pottery. In the 18th and 19th centuries craft production expanded, notably pottery workshops that supplied nearby towns. The 20th century brought road improvements and new housing, while preserving the historic street layout.

Wynfreye forms a civil parish within the Westmarch district and is governed by a parish council. The population is around 1,100.

The local economy combines agriculture with small-scale crafts and tourism focused on the historic core. The Market Hall hosts weekly markets; the annual Harvest Festival includes a traditional market re-enactment. Notable landmarks include Wynfreye Manor and St. Ruan’s Church.
