Windharbor

Windharbor is a coastal city and major seaport on the western coast of Veridia, at the mouth of the River Nare. The city is noted for its windswept harbor, diversified maritime economy, and historic waterfront. As of the latest estimates, it has a population of about 72,000 residents.

The harbor lies in a natural bay protected by two headlands. The climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and cool summers; prevailing westerly winds contribute to the city's role in wind energy.

The port handles general cargo, bulk commodities, and passenger ferries. The city is a center for ship refurbishment and repair, fishing, and the emerging offshore wind sector, with several turbine maintenance facilities in and around the harbor. Tourism focuses on the historic waterfront, seafood cuisine, and coastal recreation.

Windharbor originated as a fishing settlement in the medieval period and grew as a trading port after the harbor was expanded in the 17th century. It industrialized in the 19th century and underwent significant urban redevelopment after World War II. In the 21st century, it has emphasized maritime heritage and renewable energy.

Notable features include the Windharbor Lighthouse, the Old Dock Market, and the Maritime Museum. The annual Wind Harvest festival celebrates seafaring heritage with markets, parades, and cordage rope-walk performances.

Windharbor is governed by a mayor and elected city council within the framework of Veridia's coastal prefecture. It provides municipal services, planning, and public transit.

The city is served by a deep-water quay and container facilities, a small international airport on the outskirts, and regional rail and bus services. A passenger ferry connects to nearby islands and coastal towns.
