Winaz

Winaz is a fictional coastal city used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding. It is described as the capital of the eastern province of Eldoria, located along the Winaz River where it meets the Silver Sea. The city combines a historic waterfront with a modern administrative core, and its climate is temperate with mild winters and wet summers. In many timelines, Winaz’s population is shown around 320,000.

Winaz is governed under a mayor–council system. The city council handles legislative duties while a mayor leads the executive branch. The settlement is said to have been founded in the 11th century by mariner-merchants and to have received a formal charter in 1299. Over centuries it grew from a riverport into a regional hub for trade, education, and culture.

Its economy centers on maritime trade, shipbuilding, and logistics, with light manufacturing in the Port Quarter. The city hosts an international airport and two rail corridors. Winaz University, established in 1874, is recognized for programs in marine science, engineering, and humanities.

Notable landmarks include the Old Lighthouse, Market Hall, and the Arts Basin. The annual Lantern Festival attracts visitors with crafts, music, and processions. In fiction, Winaz is often used as a case study in urban design and governance.
