Wikstroemia

Wikstroemia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Thymelaeaceae. The genus comprises several dozen species of evergreen shrubs and small trees, distributed across Asia and the Pacific, with some species extending to Australia. They are commonly found in a variety of habitats, from coastal areas to montane regions, and are valued for their dense, ornamental foliage.

Morphology and identification features vary among species but share several traits. Plants are typically evergreen with hard, leathery leaves. The arrangement of leaves is usually alternate or occasionally opposite, and the foliage tends to be glossy. A common caution is that members of the Thymelaeaceae family contain toxic compounds; ingestion or handling of plant parts can cause dermatitis or more serious health effects in some cases, so care is advised when cultivating or processing the plants.

Taxonomy remains subject to revision as botanists study species boundaries and relationships within Thymelaeaceae. Wikstroemia is related to other genera in the family, including Daphne, and contributes to the botanical diversity of the group.
