Wenwynwyn

Wenwynwyn is a fictional character appearing in Arthurian legend. Her story is primarily found in the Welsh tale "Lludd and Llefelys," which forms part of the Mabinogion. Wenwynwyn is the wife of King Lludd, who ruled Britain.

Her tale centers on a period of great distress for Britain. Three destructive plagues were afflicting the land, brought about by supernatural means. The first was a great darkness that extinguished all light, lasting for three days and three nights. The second plague was a pervasive and terrifying dragon's cry that caused all who heard it to fall into a deep slumber, from which they would never wake. The third plague was a constant and inexplicable disturbance in the land, making it impossible for inhabitants to live peacefully.

King Lludd, desperate to find a solution, sought the counsel of his wise brother, Llefelys, who was in France. Llefelys, through his knowledge, provided Lludd with the means to overcome these supernatural afflictions. It is in the context of these trials that Wenwynwyn is mentioned as Lludd's queen, and her well-being, along with that of the kingdom, was threatened by these magical woes.
