Llefelys

Llefelys is a figure from Welsh mythology, primarily appearing in the Mabinogion, a collection of medieval Welsh prose tales. He is most notably associated with the tale of Lludd and Llefelys.

In this story, Llefelys is the younger brother of King Lludd of Britain. When Britain is afflicted by three plagues – a dragon's cry that causes infertility, a swarm of fairies that steals food, and a mysterious mist – Lludd seeks his brother's counsel. Llefelys, who is depicted as being wise and knowledgeable, resides in France and is married to the daughter of the King of France.

Llefelys devises the solutions to each of Britain's problems. For the dragon's cry, he instructs Lludd to prepare a magical mead, which will cause the dragons to fall asleep. He then advises Lludd to trap them in a chest and bury them. For the fairy swarm, Llefelys suggests Lludd acquire a special kind of cloth, woven with a specific pattern, which will repel the fairies. Finally, for the mist, Llefelys explains that it is caused by the breath of two dragons, one white and one red, who are locked in eternal combat. He tells Lludd how to capture and subdue them.

Through Llefelys's guidance, Lludd is able to overcome these calamities and restore peace to his kingdom. Llefelys himself is not an active participant in the events in Britain, but his wisdom and strategic advice are crucial to their resolution. He represents a source of knowledge and practical solutions within the mythological narrative.
