While the exact inventor is debated, Frank Epperson is often credited with accidentally creating the first popsicle in 1905 when he left a mixture of powdered soda and water with a stirring stick outside overnight. He patented his invention as the "Epsicle" in 1924, later changing the name to "Popsicle."

Waterijsjes are popular worldwide, especially during warmer months, due to their refreshing nature and often lower calorie count compared to other frozen desserts like ice cream. They are produced commercially in a vast array of flavors, colors, and shapes, catering to diverse preferences.
