Wartungsmodelle, also known as maintenance models, are frameworks or strategies used to plan, execute, and manage the maintenance of assets, equipment, or systems. They provide a structured approach to ensure that assets remain operational, reliable, and safe throughout their lifecycle. The primary goal of implementing a maintenance model is to optimize maintenance activities, minimize downtime, reduce costs, and extend asset life.

Several common maintenance models exist, each with its own set of principles and applications. Preventive maintenance involves scheduled inspections and servicing to prevent failures before they occur. This can include time-based maintenance (e.g., servicing every six months) or usage-based maintenance (e.g., servicing after a certain number of operating hours). Condition-based maintenance relies on monitoring the actual condition of an asset through sensors and diagnostic tools to determine when maintenance is needed. This allows for maintenance to be performed only when necessary, avoiding unnecessary work and potential over-maintenance.

Corrective maintenance, in contrast, is performed after a failure has occurred to restore the asset to its operational state. Reactive maintenance is a subset of corrective maintenance where no proactive steps are taken, and repairs are only made when a breakdown happens. Predictive maintenance is an advanced form of condition-based maintenance that uses data analytics and historical trends to forecast potential failures, allowing for proactive interventions. Finally, Reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) is a systematic process for determining the maintenance requirements of an asset based on its function and failure modes. The selection of an appropriate maintenance model depends on factors such as the criticality of the asset, its operating environment, cost considerations, and the desired level of availability.
