Wanddose

Wanddose is a term used in German electrical installations to denote a wall-mounted electrical enclosure designed to house a socket outlet, a switch, or other electrical connectors. It provides a protective housing and a mounting point for devices and wiring at the wall surface or just below the surface in the wall.

There are two main subtypes. Unterputz-Dose refers to a flush-mounted box installed within the wall, often concealed behind plaster or wall materials. Aufputz-Dose describes a surface-mounted box that is attached to the wall and typically covered with a faceplate. Both types are designed to accommodate standard electrical devices and are compatible with various configurations, including single-gang and multi-gang layouts to hold multiple sockets, switches, or connectors.

Wanddosen are typically made from plastic or metal and include features such as knockouts for cable entries, mounting holes for devices, and compatibility with standard faceplates. Materials and construction vary by application and regional standards. They are used in residential, commercial, and industrial settings to organize and protect wiring while providing accessible points for power or communication connections.

In practice, Wanddosen are installed in accordance with national electrical codes and safety standards. In German-speaking regions these standards are aligned with VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik) requirements and applicable DIN norms.
