VDE

VDE stands for Verband der Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik, a German technical association of engineers and researchers in the fields of electrical, electronic, and information technology. Founded in 1893 in Berlin, it has grown into a large international organization that coordinates standardization, safety guidelines, and professional development. The association is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main and operates regional and technical sections with tens of thousands of members and affiliates.

Activities and scope

VDE engages in standardization, testing, certification, and dissemination of technical knowledge. Certification and testing

A core function is product testing and certification through the VDE Prüf- und Zertifizierungsinstitut (VDE Institute). The VDE mark is widely recognized in Europe as an indicator of safety and quality.

International and educational role

VDE participates in international standardization processes and represents German engineering perspectives in global forums. It supports education and continuing professional development by offering training, seminars, and resources for industry, utilities, and consumers.
