Wadjets

Wadjets, also spelled Uatchit, is a goddess in ancient Egyptian religion. She is primarily known as a cobra goddess and a protector. Her name translates to "the green one" and she is often depicted as a cobra or a woman with a cobra's head.

One of Wadjets' most significant roles was as a patron goddess of Lower Egypt. She was often associated with the pharaoh and was believed to protect him. The uraeus, the rearing cobra symbol seen on the pharaoh's headdress, is widely believed to represent Wadjets. This powerful symbol was thought to ward off enemies and enemies of the state.

Wadjets was also associated with childbirth and fertility. She was invoked to protect women during pregnancy and labor. Her protective powers extended to infants and children, who were often given amulets bearing her image.

Her cult center was located in Per-Wadjet (meaning "House of Wadjet") in the Nile Delta. While her importance waned in later periods, Wadjets remained a significant and enduring figure in Egyptian mythology, symbolizing protection and royal authority for millennia.
