WPA3salaus refers to the encryption and authentication features introduced with WPA3 (Wi‑Fi Protected Access 3), the Wi‑Fi Alliance’s successor to WPA2. Released in 2018, WPA3 was designed to strengthen wireless security by addressing known weaknesses in earlier standards and by simplifying secure configuration for modern devices.

Key elements include Simultaneous Authentication of Equals (SAE), a password-authenticated key exchange that replaces the pre-shared key (PSK) handshake in personal networks and provides improved resistance to offline dictionary attacks and forward secrecy. For open (unencrypted) networks, WPA3 incorporates Opportunistic Wireless Encryption (OWE) to provide individualized data encryption even without a shared password. WPA3-Enterprise offers an optional 192-bit security suite intended for high-security environments. The standard also supports enhanced provisioning methods such as Wi‑Fi Easy Connect (Device Provisioning Protocol) and a transition mode that allows coexistence with WPA2 devices.

WPA3 aimed to make wireless connections more robust against passive eavesdropping and brute-force attacks and to simplify secure onboarding of IoT equipment. Early deployments revealed implementation vulnerabilities—most notably the 2019 "Dragonblood" set of flaws targeting aspects of SAE—that prompted vendor patches and specification clarifications. Adoption has been gradual, constrained by hardware and firmware update availability and by legacy device compatibility. Ongoing updates and certification by the Wi‑Fi Alliance continue to shape real-world security and interoperability of WPA3 implementations.
