Wärmeeingangszone

The Wärmeeingangszone, or heat input zone, is a concept primarily used in welding and materials processing. It refers to the area in and around the weld where heat is applied to the base material. This zone is characterized by elevated temperatures that cause changes in the material's microstructure and properties. Understanding the Wärmeeingangszone is crucial for controlling the welding process and ensuring the integrity and performance of the finished product.

The size and temperature distribution within the Wärmeeingangszone depend on several factors, including the type of heat source (e.g., arc, laser, electron beam), its intensity and travel speed, and the thermal conductivity of the material being joined. Within this zone, distinct regions can be identified based on temperature. The hottest part is the fusion zone, where the material melts. Adjacent to this is the heat-affected zone (HAZ), where the material does not melt but undergoes metallurgical transformations due to the heat exposure.

The HAZ can be further subdivided into areas experiencing different temperature ranges and cooling rates, leading to varying microstructures and properties. These changes can include grain growth, phase transformations, and the formation of residual stresses. Improper control of the Wärmeeingangszone can lead to defects such as cracking, porosity, or reduced mechanical strength.
