Võrguväärsus

Võrguväärsus refers to the concept of network fairness in computer networks. It addresses how network resources such as bandwidth, latency, and packet loss are allocated among competing users or applications. The goal of võrguväärsus is to ensure that no single user or application monopolizes resources to the detriment of others, or conversely, that certain critical applications receive a guaranteed level of service.

Different metrics can be used to measure võrguväärsus, including absolute fairness (all users get the same resources) and proportional fairness (users get resources proportional to their demand or priority). Resource allocation mechanisms, such as queuing algorithms, scheduling policies, and admission control, are employed to achieve desired levels of fairness.

Achieving perfect võrguväärsus can be challenging due to the dynamic nature of network traffic and the diverse requirements of different applications. For instance, real-time applications like video conferencing require low latency and minimal jitter, while bulk data transfers can tolerate higher latency but need significant bandwidth. Network operators often implement Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms to prioritize certain traffic types and ensure a satisfactory experience for all users. The concept is also relevant in the context of network neutrality, which advocates for equal treatment of all internet traffic.
