Võitluses

Võitluses is an Estonian word meaning “in a struggle” or “in the midst of a fight.” It is the inessive singular form of võitlus (struggle) and is used to express that someone or something is currently engaged in conflict, contest, or effort. The term can describe literal battles as well as metaphorical struggles, such as political, social, or personal challenges.

Etymology and form: Võitluses derives from võitlus, related to võitlema (to fight) and võit (victory). The inessive suffix -s marks location or state, roughly corresponding to “in” in English. The form is commonly used with the verb being implicit or explicit, for example in phrases like “on võitluses” or “on võitluses kriisi vastu.”

Usage: Võitluses appears in neutral and formal writing to convey ongoing conflict or effort. It often combines with a target or opposition, such as kriis (crisis), diskrimineerimine (discrimination), or võrdõiguslikkus (equality). Typical constructions include võitluses kriisi vastu and võitluses diskrimineerimise vastu, or, more broadly, võitluses soolise võrdõiguslikkuse nimel.
