Végeit is a fictional region in a high fantasy setting used in contemporary fantasy literature and tabletop role-playing games. In the in-world naming tradition, végeit is treated as a proper noun describing a coastal province and archipelago whose name is said to come from an old tongue meaning “the ends” or “the horizons.”

Geography and climate

The region comprises a chain of nine islands and several islets separated by straits. The archipelago features rugged coastlines, fjord-like coves, and inland highlands. The capital city, Lirame, sits on the largest island, with smaller ports connected by a network of sea lanes. The maritime climate brings mild winters, cool summers, and frequent sea fog that shapes daily life and navigation.

History

Végeit was first settled during the Age of Tides by seafaring clans who built a trading nexus across the islands. It endured the Veil War, a major conflict with a continental power, and later achieved a degree of autonomy under the Pact of Tides. The inhabitants, called the Végeiri, are renowned shipwrights and sailors. They maintain a local creole language used alongside regional languages and practice traditional rune-carving on figureheads and hulls. Governance rests on a council of shipmasters who oversee coastal defense, weather lore, and commerce.
