Vätskepermeabiliteten, often translated as fluid permeability, is a fundamental property of porous materials that describes their ability to transmit fluids. It quantifies how easily a fluid can flow through the interconnected pore spaces within a solid matrix. Higher permeability means the material allows fluids to pass through more readily, while lower permeability indicates a greater resistance to fluid flow.

This property is crucial in various scientific and engineering disciplines. In hydrogeology, it determines how quickly groundwater can move through aquifers, influencing well yields and the movement of contaminants. In petroleum engineering, it is essential for understanding oil and gas extraction, as it affects the flow of hydrocarbons from reservoir rocks to production wells. In soil science, permeability influences water infiltration, drainage, and aeration, impacting plant growth and soil health.
