Värähtäväputkimittarit, also known as vibrating tube densitometers, are instruments used to measure the density of liquids and gases. The principle of operation relies on the relationship between the resonant frequency of a vibrating tube and the mass of the fluid it contains.

A typical vibrating tube densitometer consists of a U-shaped or straight tube that is made to vibrate electronically at its natural frequency. As the density of the fluid flowing through or filling the tube changes, so does its mass. This change in mass alters the resonant frequency of the vibrating tube. The instrument measures this frequency shift and, through a calibration process relating frequency to density, determines the density of the fluid.

These instruments are widely used in various industries, including petrochemicals, chemical processing, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. They are valued for their accuracy, continuous measurement capability, and suitability for harsh environments. Vibrating tube densitometers can measure density at various temperatures and pressures, making them versatile for process control and quality assurance applications.
