Väripikselit

Väripikselit, often translated as color pixels, are the smallest individual elements of a digital image. Each color pixel is a tiny dot that, when combined with many other pixels, forms a complete picture on a display screen or in a digital file. These pixels are the fundamental building blocks of all digital graphics.

The color of a pixel is determined by its numerical representation. Typically, this is achieved through an additive color model, most commonly RGB (Red, Green, Blue). In this model, each pixel's color is a combination of varying intensities of red, green, and blue light. For example, full red and no green or blue results in a red pixel, while equal amounts of red, green, and blue at maximum intensity produce white.

The number of distinct colors a pixel can display is determined by its bit depth. A higher bit depth allows for a wider spectrum of colors and smoother gradations. For instance, an 8-bit per channel system, common in many displays, allows for 256 levels of red, 256 levels of green, and 256 levels of blue, resulting in millions of possible color combinations for each pixel. The density of pixels, known as resolution, also affects the perceived detail and clarity of an image.
