Värdeaktier, or value stocks in English, are a type of stock that are believed to be trading for less than their intrinsic or fundamental worth. Investors who focus on value stocks typically look for companies that have historically performed well, have strong financial statements, and are trading at a low price relative to their earnings, book value, or dividends. The underlying principle is that the market has undervalued these companies, and their stock prices will eventually rise to reflect their true worth.

The concept of value investing was popularized by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd, and further championed by investors like Warren Buffett. Value investors often examine various financial metrics to identify these undervalued opportunities. Common indicators include a low price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, a low price-to-book (P/B) ratio, and a high dividend yield. These metrics suggest that the company is generating solid profits or has substantial assets relative to its stock price.

Companies that are considered value stocks might be temporarily out of favor with the market due to negative sentiment, industry headwinds, or other short-term issues. However, the value investor believes these challenges are surmountable and that the company's long-term prospects remain strong. The goal is to buy these stocks at a discount and hold them until the market recognizes their true value, leading to capital appreciation. It's important to distinguish value stocks from growth stocks, which are expected to grow at a faster rate than the overall market and are often priced higher relative to their current earnings.
