Välisviljastamine

Välisviljastamine, also known as in vitro fertilization (IVF), is a process in which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside of a woman's body. This reproductive technology is commonly used to treat infertility, where a woman's ovaries do not produce eggs or the eggs are not viable, or where there are issues with the fallopian tubes that prevent the egg from reaching the uterus.

The process typically begins with the stimulation of the woman's ovaries to produce multiple eggs. These eggs are then retrieved through a minor surgical procedure. In the laboratory, the retrieved eggs are fertilized with sperm, either through conventional insemination or using intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) for cases of severe male factor infertility. The fertilized eggs are then cultured in a nutrient-rich environment for several days to allow for cell division and development into embryos. One or more embryos are transferred into the woman's uterus, where implantation and pregnancy may occur.
