Välipalvelimille

Välipalvelimille refers to the Finnish term for "intermediary servers" or "proxy servers". These are computer systems or applications that act as a gateway or intermediary between a client and another server. Instead of a client directly connecting to a target server, it sends its request to the välipalvelin, which then forwards the request to the target server. The response from the target server is then sent back to the välipalvelin, which in turn relays it to the client.

Välipalvelimet serve various purposes. One common use is for security, where they can filter incoming and outgoing traffic, block malicious content, and mask the IP addresses of clients. Another function is caching, where frequently accessed content is stored on the välipalvelin to speed up delivery to clients and reduce the load on the origin server. They can also be used for load balancing, distributing incoming network traffic across multiple servers to prevent any single server from becoming overwhelmed.

In corporate networks, välipalvelimet are often employed to control internet access, enforce usage policies, and monitor employee activity. For individual users, proxy servers can be used to bypass geographical restrictions on content or to enhance privacy by anonymizing internet traffic.
