Vorderdeckel
Vorderdeckel is the German term for the front cover of a book or booklet. It refers to the outer surface that is faced by the reader when the volume is closed. The Vorderdeckel forms part of the bookbinding and, in traditional bindings, is usually attached to the cover boards. Materials commonly used include cardboard, paper, cloth, leather, or a combination thereof. The front cover often bears the book’s title, author, publisher, and sometimes a subtitle or series information, as well as graphic elements or artwork that establish the book’s design and marketing appeal.
