Vizeletdrénálás

Vizeletdrénálás, also known as urinary catheterization or bladder drainage, is a medical procedure to drain urine from the bladder. It is typically performed by inserting a flexible tube, called a catheter, through the urethra into the bladder. The catheter allows urine to flow out of the body and into a collection bag.

This procedure is often necessary when a person is unable to urinate normally. Common reasons for requiring vizeletdrénálás include urinary retention due to an enlarged prostate, bladder stones, or nerve damage. It can also be used to monitor urine output in critically ill patients, after surgery, or to obtain a sterile urine sample for laboratory analysis.

There are different types of urinary catheters, including intermittent catheters, which are inserted and removed for each voiding, and indwelling catheters, which remain in place for a longer period. Indwelling catheters are typically held in the bladder by a small balloon that is inflated once the catheter is in position.

While generally safe, vizeletdrénálás carries some risks, such as urinary tract infections, bladder irritation, and, in rare cases, injury to the urethra or bladder. Proper sterile technique during insertion and regular catheter care are crucial to minimize these risks.
