Vizeletcultúra, a Hungarian term, translates to "urine culture" in English. It refers to the microbiological examination of a urine sample to identify and quantify the presence of microorganisms, typically bacteria. This diagnostic test is crucial in the detection and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The process involves collecting a midstream urine sample, ideally the first morning void, under sterile conditions to minimize contamination. This sample is then cultured on various growth media in a laboratory. If microorganisms are present, they will multiply, forming visible colonies. Technicians then analyze the type of microorganism and its abundance. Further tests may be conducted to determine which antibiotics are effective against the identified pathogen, a process known as antibiotic sensitivity testing.

A positive urine culture, indicating the presence of a significant number of specific microorganisms, often leads to a diagnosis of a UTI. The results guide healthcare professionals in prescribing the appropriate antibiotic treatment.
