Vissersknoop

Vissersknoop, also known as the Angler's Knot or Fisherman's Knot, is a simple but effective knot used for joining two lines of similar or dissimilar diameters. It is particularly favored in fishing for its ease of tying and its security when under tension. The knot consists of two overhand knots, each tied around the standing part of the other line.

To tie a Vissersknoop, first form an overhand knot in the end of one line. Then, pass the end of the second line through the loop of this overhand knot and tie another overhand knot around the standing part of the first line. Pull both standing parts to tighten the knot. The two overhand knots should snug up against each other.

The Vissersknoop is known for its reliability, especially with monofilament and braided fishing lines. Its compact nature makes it less likely to snag on objects while retrieving a line. While very secure when properly tied and tightened, it can be difficult to untie after being subjected to significant strain. For joining lines of vastly different diameters, or for situations requiring absolute knot security, other knots like the Blood Knot or the Surgeon's Knot might be preferred. However, for general fishing purposes and ease of use, the Vissersknoop remains a popular choice among anglers.
