Vilkkumattoma

Vilkkumattoma, also known as the "blinking turtle," is a species of turtle endemic to the freshwater habitats of Sri Lanka. It is characterized by its unique behavior of blinking its eyes rapidly, which is believed to be a defense mechanism against predators. The turtle's shell is typically brown or olive-green, with a yellow or orange plastron. It has a relatively small head and a long, slender neck, which it uses to forage for food in shallow waters.

Vilkkumattoma is a semi-aquatic species, spending much of its time in or near water. It is an omnivore, feeding on a variety of aquatic plants, insects, and small crustaceans. The turtle is known for its slow movement on land, but it is a strong swimmer and can cover significant distances in water.

The species is currently listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, pollution, and overcollection for the pet trade.
